North Carolina Sports - Raleigh, NC

The triad isn’t just a sports area, but THE sports area. If you have a love for college ball or need a hockey fix this is the place to be. Football, basketball, baseball, or hockey maniacs will get their fix in the triad. So bring your sports jersey, your big foam finger, and grab a beer.

Really there is only one controversial question that can be asked in Raleigh. No, not north or south, but Tar Heels or Blue Devils? Pick a side and stand back! On any given Saturday in the fall, these 2 college football teams will be entering the grid iron to defend the long tradition of sports that Chapel Hill (University of North Carolina Chapel Hill) and Duke University have longed cherished. A sea of tar heel blue or royal blue devil will lead you to the proper venue to cheer your team to victory. If you’ve never experienced a college game, you can’t go wrong experiencing one of these. These are the ultimate college football games in the ultimate college town. Perhaps your trip is after football season? Well, don’t fear, basketball will take its place, and you won’t even notice. Duke and Chapel Hill are not only among the finest basketball teams in the college ranks, but they also have a rivalry that equals the Sox and Yankees. A totally fun way to spend your weekend.

Hockey and the south; an odd combination, but one that’s quickly bringing the NHL to its knees. The Hartford Whalers came to North Carolina in 1997. Once here, with a quick name change, they became the Carolina Hurricanes, and boy were we glad to see them! After playing their first two seasons in Greensboro, they moved to their new home in October of 1999, at the RBC Center (formerly known as the Raleigh Entertainment and Sports Center). The RBC Center is a excellent place to see a hockey game. Since those early days, the team has won the Stanley Cup and broken countless records in the NHL, including attendance. We love our hockey! The RBC Center is a great place to watch some of the best teams in the NHL, and the Hurricanes will always make it exciting.

Bull Durham is one of the most beloved baseball movies around. If you love Kevin Costner then I’m sure you’ve seen this movie. It’s a story of an aging ball player sent to the minor leagues to help an up and coming pitcher. If you’re a fan, a trip to the triad must include a game with the Durham Bulls. Taking the field in 1902, the Bulls have a long and rich baseball history. Raleigh loves it’s AAA ball ,and you might just hear an American Idol singing the National Anthem as Clay Aiken did in 2003, or you could see a Hall-of-Famer return to the city to retire his number as Joe Morgan did in 2002. This is a great way to spend a summer evening, munching a hot dog and drinking a cold coke, and cheering your favorite team in one of the most loved sports in America.

If you live for sports come to Raleigh, Durham, or Chapel Hill. Don’t forget to check out the sports situation, pick a game, pick a team, pick a college, and cheer your heart out!
