Located in the heart of north central North Carolina, lies the sprawling city of Durham. Travelers visiting Durham have a lot in store when they arrive in this thriving city. Durham owes a lot of its growth thanks in part to the local tobacco product found within the region. Civil War soldiers sampled the Brightleaf Tobacco famous to the area, and soon the Bull Durham Tobacco Company and the Washington Duke’s Duke & Son Tobacco Company were producing copious amounts of the product to be distributed to the public for sale. The Durham Tobacco Company eventually became the American Tobacco Company after undergoing renovation. Today, the campus of the American Tobacco Company is home to a number of offices, shops, and places to eat. It is still a big tourist attraction for travelers visiting the city of Durham.

Besides the historic tobacco district, vacationers will find plenty of things to do in Durham. Durham, North Carolina is a haven for arts, theatre, and festival activities. The Nasher Museum of Art has a wonderful display of contemporary art pieces, and if you love dancing, then the American Dance Festival kicks off for six weeks during the summer months, featuring a variety of modern dance shows. Sports lovers should check out a Durham Bull’s game at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. This adored sports team was the theme of 1988’s “Bull Durham”, a comedy about the local baseball franchise. Durham also has its fine share of stores and shops along the ninth street area for those seeking an adventurous day out. Check out the super-sized Streets at Southpoint and Main Street shopping mall located off I-40 for fun filled day of spending excitement!

Durham also has wonderful hotel accommodations for all travelers. Visitors can choose from a variety of Durham hotels, including local established chains, bed & breakfast accommodations, and even more upscale settings that offer guests massage therapy, round the clock dining, and spa sessions. Vacationers will have no problem receiving top-notch room service from Durham’s hotel staff, and most hotels in the area serve breakfast for early risers who want to get a head start on the day. Alivia’s Durham Bistro and Magnolia Grill are just two of the big time favorites on Durham’s places to eat list.
