Things to Do in Winston Salem

When traveling to North Carolina, be sure one of your vacation stops includes the city of Winston Salem. This fascinating North Carolina city is located in the Piedmont Triad region of the state and is one of the few places in the country that has a living history. Winston Salem is often referred to as the “Twin City” since both the towns of Winston and Salem merged into a single entity. Winston Salem is home to the RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company and the famous Wachovia Center, one of the tallest buildings in the state of North Carolina. Winston Salem offers visitors an escapade back into time with Old Salem, a modern living history museum that features Moravian interpreters practicing blacksmith, shoe smith, and carpenter trades as visitors explore the wonderful historical homes and rich culture of this town. There are also many other things to do in Winston Salem that will take you back in time and give you a modern taste of the present. The Reynolda House Museum of American Art has different art pieces dating back to the colonial era all the way up to today. Art fanatics can also take part in the National Black Theatre Festival and the RiverRun Film Festival featuring a unique blend of films. Shoppers can go to Hanes Mall, one of the biggest shopping venues in North Carolina, and attend a variety of other shopping locations throughout the region. Other things to do in Winston Salem include taking a stroll through Reynolda Gardens, watching one of the local sports teams play a game, or taking a tour through one of Winston Salem’s many wineries.

Winston Salem also has numerous hotel accommodations for families, couples, or individual business travelers stopping by for an overnight stay. There are mainstream hotel chains all over the Winston Salem area (including the Embassy Suites and Hampton Inn) offering reduced rates for families and vacationers, along with a multitude of pet friendly accommodations. Some of these accommodations include full room service, continental breakfast, lobby bars, outdoor pool and patio areas, and hot tub accommodations. Winston Salem hotels and bed & breakfast locales are all centrally located to main attractions within Winston Salem.

Winston Salem restaurants are another popular attraction for vacationers. The Twin City Chop House has juicy steaks, fresh salads, and outstanding crab cakes. The menu is reasonably priced, and the customer service is simply phenomenal. Sweet Potatoes Incorporated is another great place to eat. Mouthwatering meatloaf, corn, okra, tasty onions, and a variety of potato menu items, including sweet potato fries and sweet potato cheesecake greet diners at this popular establishment. Other good places to eat in Winston Salem are Burke Street Pizza, Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers, and the West End Café.
